President Peter Mutharika and Vice President Saulos Chilima are expected to meet on May 4, 2019 as both have an invitation from Public Affairs Committee (PAC) to attend prayers and sign peace accord to conduct peaceful campaign.

The two will probably meet for the first time since Chilima demarcated from Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to form his United Transformation Movement (UTM).

The religious body believes that by signing a peace declaration, the presidential candidates will set a tone for violence-free campaign period.

Apostle Madalitso Mbewe of Cavalry Family Church (CFC) has also said the two are also likely to meet again at state house for the presidential prayer breakfast in the first week of May.

“Both Mutharika and Chilima have confirmed there availability,” Mbewe said.

Atupele Muluzi of United Democratic Front (UDF) and Lazarus Chakwera, Malawi Congress Party are also expected to attend the meeting.

Mbewe said the prayer breakfast is aimed at creating an atmosphere where the presidential candidates will eat together, pray and have time to talk to each other freely in a peaceful environment.
