President Peter Mutharika has promised to transform Mchinji district into a municipality once re-elected into power in the forthcoming elections.
Mutharika made the remarks in Mchinji during whistle stop campaign tour
He said his government will make sure that the development offered to Mchinji district is befitting its status of being the boarder district.
“Mchinji will have modern infrastructures and it will be developed just the neighboring Chipata, Zambia,” he said.
Mutharika further added that once re-elected into power his government will continue developing the central region.
Despite some critics on the Malata Subsidy Program, Mutharika said his government will continue with the program in order to reach out to vulnerable people.
“My government will continue the Malata Subsidy Program, the cash transfer programs and other programs to support vulnerable people in the society,” He added.
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Secretary General Grelzedar Jeffry said people should not be listening to empty promises made by opposition political parties.
“DPP has fulfilled its promises made in 2014, and we will do more when re-elected into power,” she said.
The president further urged people of Mchinji to vote for him and DPP Members of Parliament and Councilors’.
