Government has warned UTM presidential candidate Saulos Chilima to stop the habit of telling lies with the aim of gathering voters otherwise they will be forced to get into his cupboard and flash his skeletons out.
The call comes high heels after Chilima accused Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) and Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) for sponsoring the ruling party Democratic Progressive Party -DPP campaign.
The UTM leader who is also the state vice president made the remarks recently during his whistle stop tours in Blantyre. He said the two institutiins are bankrolling the ruling party.
In a press statement signed by Minister of information Honourable Henry Mussa points out that Chilima’s ploy of sponsoring people at MRA and MACRA to manufacture allegations against their institutions and their leaders is primitive and will fail.
The statement also claims that the threats by Chilima are instigated by personal grudges that he jelously cherishes against some individuals at MRA and MACRA which date back to the time he was in private sector and which also registered during the time he chaired the Malawi public service reforms commission.
“These people are being targeted because he has personal scores to settle with them for reasons that are demeaning to reveal,” Said Mussa.
The statement also blames the transformative agendas of Chilima which rides on the promise that in the event of him forming Government public resources will not be mismanaged saying they are aware how the Vice President is currently mismanaging public resources by receiving salary and using other public resources while he absconds from duty.
Chilima during Blantyre tour promised to reveal more institutions who are in the same act in his upcoming tours.
Last week,One of the country’s political commentators who also heads the Center for Multiparty and Democracy Kizito Tenthani advised vice president Saulos Chilima to give an evidence of the issue.
Tenthani says; “It is illegal for any party to solicit funds from government agencies hence bring evidence forward, so that they are dealt with.”
“The law forbids anyone to do that. If the evidence implicates DPP on this matter, then should face the book.”
The issue of abusing government resources is common amongst ruling parties in Malawi, a thing that shows unseriousness between office bearers.
This links the story to the rooting public resources which is also known as “Cashgate”. The cashgate was the genesis of indicating loopholes that government have had.
Recently, Malawi has also witnessed the vanish of 7 billion kwacha that was supposed to be used to purchase maize in 2016 as the Anti-Corruption Bureau-ACB found the money in the house of ex-Agriculture Minister, George Chaponda.
