Good Neighbours Organisation handed over K140 million to Chambwe Health Centre in Traditional Authority (T/A) Chambwe in Kasungu.

The centre has a maternity wing, a voluntary counseling and testing centre, and three staff houses.

Good Neighbours country director Jooyoung Choi said that his organisation is dedicated to providing basic support to people of the community.

“We conducted a research and found that Kasungu, particularly T/A Chambwe, had no health facility,” Choi.

He added: We decided to put up a health centre close by to reduce the distance people used to travel to get treatment and ensure that people have easy access to health services.”

Previously, people were walking about 37 kilometres to Kasungu District Hospital to access treatment.

Kasungu district health officer, Emanuel Golombe commended Good Neighbours for the continued health support in the district.

He further said that this will reduce congestion in health Centre’s in the district.

“We are happy that people, especially pregnant women, will no longer have to walk long distances to access medical care. We thank Good Neighbours for the gift,” Golombe said.

On his part, Senior Chief Chambwe thanked Good Neighbours for deciding his area to benefit from its initiative.
