National Bank of Malawi (NBM) has donated various items worth K20 million towards floods victims in the districts affected by recent cyclone idai.
Minister of homeland Security, Nicolas Dausi on Tuesday, April 16 received the items in Blantyre on behalf of the Department of Disaster Management affairs (Dodma) which falls under his ministry.
NBM market manager and head of wholesales banking Harold Jiya said NMB being the bank of the national it was shocked with the loss of lives, properties and livelihood following to the disaster.
“We immediately started the process of procuring relief items to assist those that were rendered homeless,” he said
He added that the donation is for victims in Mangochi, Dedza and Neno.
The items include of maize flour, soya pieces, water buckets, plastic sheets, and tarpaulin, blankets and note books.
“We hope this will assist the victims to recovery in one way or another and go back to development,” said Jiya.
A concerned member of staff also donates some clothes to help the floods victims and these too were received by Dausi.
Dausi thanked NBM for the gesture saying the items will go a long way in helping the floods victims.
The flood happened in March due to heavy rains it harm 60 lives and destroyed properties and rendered thousands of people homeless.
