Police in Ndirande are keeping in custody 33-year-old Benjamin Chigwenembe for stealing property worth K647, 300 belonging to Tech Electronics where he was an agent.
Speaking to Malawi News Agency on Tuesday, Ndirande Police Public Relations Officer, Edna Mzingwitsa, said on April 11, 2019 they received a complaint from Mrs. Cai Sheng Qun, 38, a Chinese National, that his agent, Chigwenembe went away with the vehicle, Hijet Van which carried decoders and aerials.
“The suspect was employed as sales agent for the mentioned items. On the mentioned date, the suspect did not return with the van and the items.
“Police launched a man hunt which led to the arrest of the suspect on April 15, 2019, and the van was found dumped empty at Golio area,” Mzingwitsa said.
Mzingwitsa further said inquiries are still in progress to trace the missing items. Benjamin has been charged with theft by agent and he will appear before court soon after all inquiries are completed.
Chigwenembe hails from Bwanali Village, Traditional Authority Mabuka in Mulanje District.
