A total of 21 Malawi Defence Force soldiers and one officer who were recently withdrawn from a peacekeeping mission in the DRC will today start appearing in a military court over misconduct in the mission which is alleged to have led to the death of six Malawian soldiers.

Two MDF soldiers are still missing, according to information at hand.

MDF spokesperson Paul Chiphwanya confirmed of the development in an interview with the press but could not disclose the charges.

“it is an exclusive matter we can’t disclose charges,” said Chiphwanya.

According to information at hand, 13 soldiers are facing charges of losing their weapons while on duty while eight are facing the charge of abandoning their posts.

Justice Chifundo Kachale has been appointed as an advocate judge over the matter.
