Opposition Umodzi Party (UP) has asked people in Malawi to vote for Independent Members of Parliament (MPs) and ward councilors that are working with the party as the country draw closer to May tripartite elections.
Sadana Tamanda Bakili Director for Publicity for the party was speaking in Blantyre during a press conference where the party received some MPs and ward councilors that have showed their interest to work with the party ahead of the May polls.
“We are in a coalition with independent MPs and ward councilors that have showed interest to work with us and we are urging people out there to vote for them and Professor John Chisi as president,” she said.
She said they believe in them because they are ready to make a formal agreement with the party saying that this is true testimony that the party leader will get more votes.
Bakili said they have independent MPs and ward councilors that are working with the party from Nsanje to Chitipa which indicates that UP is a big party as compared to other parties.
“The independent MPs and ward councilors that are working with us will be carrying the party’s regalia for people to believe that they are really working with us,” she said.
Bakili’s sentiments were echoed by Arnold Khondiwa, Administrative Officer for the party who said they are receiving many Independent MPs and ward councilors that are showing interest to work with the party on daily basis.
He said this shows how interested people are with the party’s manifesto whose main objective is to move Malawi from poverty to greater heights.
Khondiwa said this is also because of the visionary leadership of the party adding that come 21 May, he has the confidence that people will vote for the party and its leader Professor John Chisi as president.
