The United States Government has donated about 2.2 billion Kwacha for the emergency response to Cyclone Idai which hit some parts of Malawi.
The funds, provided by the U.S. Agency for International Development-USAID Office of Food for Peace, will support immediate food needs in the worst-affected areas of the country.
In a statement released by USAID said the donation will cover-cash based assistance to flood affected people and early recovery efforts.
“The United States is committed to support Malawians who have been affected by the floods and fast-tracking recovery efforts,” reads part of the statement.
The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) said more than 860,000 people have been affected in 15 districts.
