Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera has promised to bring back electoral reform bills once voted into power.
Chakwera said the remarks at Malembo Primary School ground, Traditional Authority (T/A) Khongozi in Lilongwe during a political campaign rally.
He said his government will bring back Electoral Reform Bills which include the constitutional (Amendment) that a president should be elected with more than 50 percent of votes, replacing first-past-the-post.
Chakwera added that when the bill was brought into parliament they were expecting a lot.
“As MCP we approved the bill during its consultation stage and we had high expectations that it will pass,” Chakwera said.
He added that they were disappointed as the ones who brought the bill let them down.
“We were let down by the very same people that brought it into parliament,” he said.
He added that once elected into power this May he will ensure that those bills are brought back into parliament as recommended by the Special Law Commission.
