United Transformation Movement (UTM) president Dr. Saulos Chilima has accused President Peter Mutharika’s rigging claims as signs of fear and panic.
Chilima said the remarks during an Imbizo tour in Ntcheu district on Tuesday.
He added that people who are saying of rigging claims are afraid of losing the forthcoming May 21 elections.
“These remarks about people rigging the polls just shows that someone is panicking that he is going to lose the polls,” Chilima said.
He therefore assured people that no one is going to rig the polls and asked people to go out and vote in large numbers.
“No one will rig these polls even Malawi Electoral Commission assured us that no one will rig the elections,” he said.
Recently, Mutharika has been claiming that some opposition parties are geared up to rig the forthcoming tripartite elections with the aid from some countries.
Chilima however said Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has engaged in scare mongering tactics. He added that he (Chilima) and UTM will not be intimidated.
