President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has removed tax on tobacco farmers selling less than ten bales of the leaf to Auction.
Mutharika made the announcement on Thursday morning during the official opening of the 2019 Tobacco Selling Season at Kanengo Auction Floors presided over by Tanzania President Dr. John Pombe Joseph Magufuli.
“Today I am ordering the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) to remove tax on farmers who sale less than 10 bales of the leaf to Auction,” said Mutharika while attracting ululation from Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) supporters gathered at the events.
Mutharika also said his administration will reduce the price of Fertilizers to allow farmers ably buy necessities for their farms.
He also promised to establish factories in rural areas for easy market access for farmers.
