Information reaching faceofmalawi indicates that the state controlled Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) has suspended four journalists for describing the incumbent President who is also torchbearer for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) as late Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.

MBC’s Lilongwe based reporter Mwai Mtumodzi on Thursday erroneously described the statue of former late President Bingu wa Mutharika as that belonging to ‘the late Professor Peter Mutharika’.

Mtumodzi made the blunder when he was rounding- up the the official visit of the Tanzania President John Magufuli to Malawi and the video clip as since gone viral on social media attracting debate among Malawians.

The suspended are the author of the news report Mwai Mtumodzi, Chief News Editor Waliko Makhala, News Producer Austin Fukula and Assistant News Producer Wesyslas Chirwa.

The four have been suspended on full pay and that they are being investigated for sleeping on the job.

The suspension of the four comes barely two days after DPP runningmate Everton Chimulirnji also goofed by describing the Malawi leader as late Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika instead of Bingu wa Mutharika.

Presidential Advisor on youth Vuwa Kaunda also made similar misstate during a political rally attended by the Party’s Secretary General Grezelder Jeffry.
