An 18 year old girl, Deborah Confidence Msukwa from Rumphi Secondary School has written a letter forwarding to President Peter Mutharika asking for consideration for selection into any of the public universities she applied.
Msukwa who scored 17 points from Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) has been left out from university selection.
According to the 18 year old girl her 17 points guarantee her to be selected to any public university she applied.
Msukwa suggests that her left out from the selections is the evil doing of quota system which she strongly condemn.
“Your excellence Sir, is it true that I am not fit for any of the six choices I made during my application? Is it true that a girl child like should fail to attain tertiary education because of quota system?” reads part of the letter.
She further reminded the president’s promise of improving and promoting education sector.
“The DPP manifesto indicates that you will promote education sector especially girl child,” writes Deborah.
She continued; “Is this what you mean you will do? I believe NO. Both you and the first lady are learned people.”
Msukwa further challenged the President not to let her future be a dream but rather he should do something about it.
She added that her parents cannot afford to pay for private universities.
“As professors you cannot let my future be doomed like this. I have full confidence that you will help me because my father and mother cannot afford to make me learn through private universities,” she complained.
Deborah concluded that crying will not help her that is why she resorted in writing to the president.
She even gave examples in her letter of some students who scored points above her and have been considered into public universities.
Deborah’s six choices were; Public administration at University of Malawi Unima, Bachelor of Education (Computer Science) Unima, Bachelor of Education (ICT) Mzuni, Bachelor of Science in Business Information Technology at MUST Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources Management (Land & water) at Luanar and Bachelor of Commerce (Entrepreneurship) Unima. rue}&Z$
