Police in Ntchisi have arrested a 33-year-old man on allegation that he killed his 39-year-old wife.
The suspect has been identified as Malijana Thamson of Kavwenje Village while the deceased is Rose Kamuikeni of Kamkuwazi Village, both from the area of Traditional Authority Chilooko in Ntchisi.
According to Ntchisi Police Publicists Gladson M’bumpha the incident happened on Sunday April 28 2019 at Kamkuwazi Village.
M’bumpha adds that Police report indicate that the suspect married the deceased and found her with four children and the elder daughter of the deceased was proposed for marriage and got prepared for the wedding.
“When the suspect was told about the wedding ceremony, he refused and cancelled it and it was on April 25 2019 at about 8pm the deceased was not pleaded with what her husband (suspect) did to cancel the wedding ceremony.”
He explains: “The deceased later told the suspect that he was refusing to have the wedding ceremony to take place because the girl who is to be get married is her stepdaughter and not her real daughter.
This did not please the suspect and became angry with the words spoken to him since he has raised the children since 2013 and fight erupted and when the elder daughter heard the fighting, she went to the house and found her mother crying.”
When the daughter asked what had happened, the deceased explained to her that she was beaten by her stepfather (suspect) and the suspect then chased the daughter by telling her that she was not worth to intervene on family issues of her mother.
“The following morning, the deceased went to attend a church meeting at a neighbouring village and on Sunday April 28 2019 the deceased collapsed at the church and died on spot.
The dead body was taken to village without reporting to police and it was on Tuesday April 30 2019 well wishers informed police who in turn followed the matter together with medical personnel who conducted postmortem and it was revealed that death was due to internal bleeding after being beaten and the burial was later ordered,” M’bumpha laments.
The suspect will appear before court soon to answer a charge of murder.
