Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) cadets went on rampage at Victoria Hotel in Blantyre demanding United Transformation Officials to leave the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) National Elections Consultative Forum (Necof) meeting.

The cadets behaved savagely in full view of their running mate Everton Chimulirenji.

UTM Director of Research and Planning Leonard Chipoya confirmed the development saying the incident happened around 8 am at the hotel.

“The DPP cadets were dressed in their party regalia and were accompanied by Mr. Chimulirenji. They said they did not want the UTM branded vehicles and colors there because Mr. Chimulirenji was there,” Chipoya said.

He added that the cadets managed to confiscate one UTM vehicle used by Mrs Loyce Mponda, southern region women director.

The cadets went further in deflating tires of some cars saying they want to set them on fire.

Hotel officials and security departments managed to calm the situation.

Later DPP, UTM, MEC officials and hotel management discussed the issue.

Meanwhile DPP has apologized over the issue. .
