United Democratic Front (UDF) has clarified the remarks made by its torchbearer Atupule Muluzi claiming that he won the May 20, 2014 tripartite election.

Muluzi is on record to have told people of Ntchisi that he was robbed of the presidency because the 2014 elections were reportedly rigged, but he simply accepted the results “because I always preach peace and I made sure to let peace prevail.”

But Ndanga, clarified Muluzi’s statement, saying,“ What he (Muluzi) said…is that there were lots of irregularities such that he doubts if, indeed, he was on position four as the results had put him.”

“United Democratic Front, Presidential candidate, Atupele Muluzi did not say that he won the 2014 presidential elections.

“What he said in Dowa and Ntchisi on Wednesday 4th April, 2019 is that there were lots of irregularities such that he doubts if indeed he was on position four as the results had put him,” said Ndanga.

He added: “This is not the first time that he had uttered those words during his public meetings.

“It is on record that the UDF presidential candidate was the first to question the credibility of the results of 2014 elections and was vindicated in the landmark ruling of Justice Kenyatta Nyirenda.”

Ndanga has since urged Malawians not to twist facts on the statement made by its torchbearer to create issues which do not exist.

“Atupele Muluzi is a mature and responsible politician who does not make careless statements as others would like to portray.

“It remains a fact that the 2014 elections results were marred with irregularities. The UDF president stands by what he said but not the distorted version of the same,” he said.

Meanwhile there are fears that the forthcoming May 21 polls will be rigged considering counter-accusations between United Transformation Movement (UTM) President Dr. Saulos Chilima and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika claiming that one of them is a rigging machine.
