The Malawi Human Rights Commission is this afternoon expected to release its report on its investigation into the death of Mr. Buleya Lule in police custody at Lilongwe Police Station on 28th February, 2019.
This has been disclosed in a press statement made available to faceofmalawi reporter signed by David V.K. Nungu.
“I write to inform you that the Commission investigated the death of Mr. Buleya Lule (the victim) who died in police custody at Lilongwe Police Station on 28th February, 2019. Meanwhile, the commission has decided to release the report to the stakeholders,” reads in part the statement.
Lule died in police custody after he appeared in the Lilongwe Magistrate’s Court on February 21 on the first day of trial over the abduction of Goodson Makanjira, 14, from Mphanyama Village, in Traditional Authority Chilikumwendo, Dedza.
The accused, who had pleaded not guilty and was charged together with five others, is said to have been offered the abducted boy by two of the fellow accused, including Makanjira’s step-father, for a price of K800 000.
The autopsy report Dr. Charles Patrick Dzamalala revealed that Buleya Lule the deceased died due to electrocution.
The report also says the deceased was assaulted with a number of objects as nature and type of the injuries seen constitute torture.
Meanwhile police are yet to make any arrest on the matter.
