The government of Malawi through Minister of Information and Communication Henry Mussa has accused United Transformation Movement (UTM) President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima of peddling lies against the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ahead of the forthcoming May 21 tripartite election.
Mussa said this when reacting to claims by Chilima that the DPP under President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has instructed heads of all Parastatalas to donate MK10 million to the DPP to be used in the campaign trail.
“These people are thieves and as evidence, they are not satisfied with the money they have stolen; they have instructed every CEO of parastatals in the country to donate K10 million to DPP. If they want me, they know where to find me,” Chilima said during a UTM rally he addressed yesterday at Njamba Freedom Park in Blantyre.
Reacting to the claims, Mussa through a statement said Chilima statement is false.
“We are volunteering this advice to Chilima because of his fabrications that public agencies are sources of funding to the DPP.
“Suffice to say that the fresh allegations that Chilima made during his rally in Blantyre on Tuesday, 14th May 2019, that almost all parastatals are under a directive to donate K10 million to the ruling party are part of the litany of falsehoods coming from the leader of the UTM,” said Mussa.
He added: “If truth be told, it is Chilima who is abusing public funds and resources for his campaign. He does not work, but uses public money, Government vehicles and personnel for his campaign.
“The falsehoods being churned out, we reiterate, are simply Chilima’s gimmick to smear Government and whip up the anger of the people of Malawi during these last days of the campaign period.”
Mussa also urged Chilima stop threating CEOs of government parastatals.
“In the same vein, the threats against heads of parastatals with unspecified action, in the event that he takes over Government, are a desperate ploy to portray himself as a tough leader and also brainwash his supporters into believing that he will triumph in the 21st May 2019 elections at all costs,” he said.
