President Peter Mutharika officially opened Liwonde-Mangochi Road on Wednesday.

In his remarks during the opening of the road Mutharika said the road will boost the tourism sector in the country as many people would find it easier to travel to the lakeshore districts’ tourism destinations.

Senior chief Chimwala hailed Mutharika for constructing the road.

“This road will not only change the face of Mangochi but also has cut short the driving distance from Mangochi to Liwonde,” said Chimwala.

Former minister of Transport and public works Jappie Mhango thanked Mutharika for spreading infrastructural development across the country without favoring one region.

Mhango described Liwonde Mangochi road as one of the kind in the country.

“The reflectors that mark the lanes and shoulders make driving at night easier and enjoyable,” complemented Mhango.

The 75- kilometer Liwonde-Mangochi road is part of the Nacala road corridor development project which the African Development Bank (ADB) is supporting in Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia. The 75- kilometer long Liwonde-Mangochi road has cost government K29. 5 {{L%
