National Library services staff across the country have gone on an indefinite strike effective today in demanding for increased pay which management has been deliberately avoiding.

According to information at hand, the workers are demanding a 10% increase and 5% respectively for different grades totaling mk32million.

At the Lilongwe office, workers sealed the premises when they reported for work this morning but resumed services hours later.

The workers have been pressing the treasury to hike their pay but Ministry of Finance said the hike will be approved in the next budget.

Recently government promoted over 20,000 teachers and Police Officers ahead of the forthcoming May 21 tripartite election.

Many described the move as deliberate by President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to woe voters to vote for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
