Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah has refuted claims some security officers especially Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers have already voted, saying the claims are not true.
On Monday, the social media was awash with reports that MDF soldiers have already voted and United Transformation Movement (UTM) President Dr. Saulos Chilima is leading.
But speaking during a media briefing currently underway at the main Tally Centre at Comesa Hall in the commercial capital Blantyre, Ansah said the rumours are unfounded aimed at diverting the attention of Malawians.
“There is no advance voting in Malawi and the allegations that some security personnel have already voted are unfounded. Previously some were allowed to vote in advance but the law was amended. Everyone including security officers will vote tomorrow starting from 6am,” said Ansah.
Turning to polls tomorrow, Ansah has urged voters not to put on party regalia during the voting day.
These include party regalia, banners and colours affiliated with political parties. If found, these will be confiscated by the authorized officers.
