A drunken man was in the afternoon arrested for allegedly shouting the name of Malawi Congress Party leader, Dr Lazarus Chakwera while polling was on going.

Billy Chinthenda, in his late 30s was detained in one of the classrooms at Chimwa polling center up to close the deadline of voting.

It is said he screamed, “Chakwera will win” while passing between two polling streams.

He was later released after The District Peace Committee Chairman and Multiparty Liason Committee Member Hastings Kalima intervened to solve the matter.

Kalima noted that the man was mentally disturbed and was drunk at the same time.

Meanwhile, unofficial election results have since started being aired by some media houses despite an outcry that other media houses are offline.
