The unofficial May poll results indicate that the Malawi Congress Party ( MCP) candidate Christopher Ashemes Songwe has defeated the outgoing Democratic Progressive Party ( DPP) candidate George Johnston Kamwanja with 3,047 votes of 5776 valid parliamentary votes in Likoma Islands.
Apart from Kamwanja’s 1,190 votes, Songwe has also defeated two other independent candidates and another two female contestants bearing utm and PP regalia respectively.
The prospective MP is expected to work with DPP councilor elect Barnabas Sambamo of Chizumulu ward and an Independent councilor Ernest Trevor Gulu of Likoma Ward to develop the most neglected district in Malawi.
