Former Vice President Khumbo Hastings Kachali who is also President of Freedom Party (FP) has accepted defeat in the unofficial results of the Tuesday’s tripartite election.
According to information at hand, Kachali has lost the Parliamentary seat in Mzimba South East constituency to Raymond Nkhata of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Nkhata has amassed 9737 against Kachali’s of FP who has amassed 8887 votes.
Speaking in an interview with the press, Kachali said: “I accept results which reflect Mzimba South West will despite irregularities. I will continue supporting my home.”
Kachali is in the footsteps of of DPP Vice for Central Region Uladi Mussa, former Minister of Information Henry Mussa, Jessie Kabwira of United Transformation Movement (UTM), Lucius Banda, Patricia Kaliati who have all lost their seats.
Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) will announce the official results in four days to come.
