Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has refused to meet Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera over his violence threats if declared a loser in the election.

This has been said by MEC’s chairperson Justice Jane Ansah on Thursday during a press briefing.

In her remarks Ansah said the press release that was issued was enough to condemn the threats.

“He issued a public statement and we have responded him through a public statement as well. And that was enough,” Ansah said.

She added that MEC does not have time to meet political leaders because ‘we are too busy to ensure that the results are out on time.’

Chakwera on Wednesday declared himself winner and Commander In Chief at a press conference in Blantyre, but Malawi Electoral Commission took a swipe at him for declaring himself a winner and for inciting violence.
