Umodzi Party (UP) leader Professor John Chisi has asked Malawians whoever wins in as presidential race.
He was speaking at a press briefing the party held at its head office in Blantyre
Chisi said Malawians we are all Malawians and it is important to support whoever wins between Professor Arthur Mutharika of the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) or Dr Lazarus Chakwera of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
“The issue is not about emotions but understanding each other because democracy requires people to be patient and in democracy the majority rules, therefore it is important for all of us to give support to the one who wins,” he said.
The UP leader said we should be ready to accept the results because at the end of the day is peace that we want not violence.
Chisi said that it is sad because some people they want to use their anger over this issue instead of accepting democracy.
“We should learn a lesson from every experience and support each other as one nation to move forward. It is only peace that can build our nation,” he said.
He said Malawians should deal with the results in a mature manner saying that the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) should follow to what they have said.
The UP leader also saluted MEC chair Dr Jane Anshah for the recommendable job and congratulated Malawians for going to vote in large numbers.
