Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) regional governor for the south Charles Mchacha has called on Malawians to celebrate peacefully.
Mchacha said the remarks during the swearing in ceremony of President Peter Mutharika at Kamuzu Stadium in the commercial city of Blantyre.
In his remarks Mchacha said Mutharika is the president of Malawi not for DPP or southern region.
“President Peter Mutharika is the president of Malawi as country, he is here to serve the people of Malawi,” said Mchacha.
Mchacha further expressed shock with the acts of violence that are taking place in some parts of the country saying it is not condoned.
“As the regional governor for the south I am saying I will not tolerate any act of violence,” he said.
He therefore urged Malawians to maintain calm and peace during this excitement period as Mutharika has been given a fresh mandate to rule and development the country.
Mchacha concluded by asking DPP members to celebrate responsibly.
