Information sourced by faceofmalawi indicates that newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) will be sworn-in on June 17 to 18 in the Parliament Chamber in Lilongwe, 2019.

This has been disclosed in a statement released on May 27, 2019 signed by Clerk of Parliament Fiona Kalemba made available to faceofmalawi.

According to Kalemba, the ceremony will be followed by the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speakers of the August House.

“The Hounorable Members will be communicated about the specific day and the time they are scheduled to take their oaths and are kindly advised to adhere to the rules and procedures of the swearing in ceremony.

“Prior to swearing-in, there will be an Orientation Workshop for the Members-elect to be held at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) from Monday June 10 to Friday June 14 2019,” reads in part the statement.

The country held its second tripartite election on May 21, 2019 where President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika was re-elected after beating his strong contender Dr. Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

As this was not enough, the ruling DPP scooped 61 seats in the August House against 55 seats of MCP while 55 seats went to Independent MPs.
