President Peter Mutharika has called on opposition parties to accept defeat and move on in developing the country.
Mutharika made the remarks after he sworn in as the president of the republic of Malawi on Tuesday at Kamuzu stadium in Blantyre.
In his remarks Mutharika congratulated his competitors and reminded them that there is only one winner.
“I want to congratulate other leaders who competed with me in these elections. But they have to accept that there can only be one winner,” said Mutharika.
He further said that elections are over, what is remaining is to develop the country.
“The elections are over. This is a time to unite and develop this country,” pleaded Mutharika.
Mutharika own May 21 tripartite elections with 38.57% against MCP’s Lazarus Chakwera.
