United Transformation Movement (UTM) Regional Governor for the South Steve Mikaya who is also Member of Parliament for Blantyre City West Constituency has denied joining the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Mikaya was spotted at Kamuzu Stadium attending the inauguration of President elect Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and he later took a photo with David Kanyenda, a DPP youth cadet.

Writing on his official facebook page Mikaya denied the claims and he accused the ruling DPP of fabricating the story.

“Today I attended the swearing in ceremony for the presidency at Kamuzu Stadium, after the function David Kanyenda ran after me and asked for Selfie shoot. I accepted and this happened at my car outside the stadium..

“Now people are speculating that I have joined DPP which is not true.. I therefore ask Julius Zimwanda Mithi to withdraw the statement immediately,” wrote Mikaya.

Mikaya outclassed DPP MP Thom Gowelo in Blantyre City West Constituency in the Tuesday’s tripartite election.
