The department of Forestry has said it will renew its agreement with Malawi Defense Force (MDF) to continue protecting the country’s forests from malicious cutting down of trees.

This has been said by the spokesperson for the Forestry Department Sangwani Phiri.

Phiri said that the MDF soldiers have moved out of the forests in Nyika, Dzalanyama and Mulanje among others.

“We will soon reviewing our agreement with the MDF,” said Phiri.

Phiri further added that the department is willing to send back soldiers to guard the trees.

“The department wants to send the soldiers back to the forest to protect the trees,” he added.

When asked when the agreement will be reviewed, Phiri could not say exactly when the agreement would be renewed and signed citing that this will be done when both sides are ready.
