Secretary General of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Grelzedar Jeffrey has issued a warning to Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to stop post-election violence.
Jeffrey was speaking on Sunday at St. Augustine 3 primary school during a DPP victory rally in Mangochi.
In her remarks Jeffrey whilst mentioning Richard Chimwendo Banda, said she has given MCP a three day ultimatum to stop post-elections violence or risk facing unspecified action.
She further continued that the reasoning for MCP to stop violence is because people voted for what they wanted.
“Let me tell you (Richard Chimwendo Banda) and the entire MCP leadership to stop violence within three days or else we will deal with you. The violence you are perpetrating has to stop because people voted for what they wanted,” Jeffrey stated.
She added that every Secretary General of any political party has a right to attend court proceedings.
Her remarks came in following MCP supporters attempt to manhandle her at the Lilongwe High Court during a scheduling conference on the constitutional court on the presidential disputed results in which MCP and UTM have moved to courts.
