The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has finally given a go ahead to Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to peacefully hold demonstrations this coming Thursday across the country.
Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) together with concerned Malawians will on Thursday hold national wide protest to force Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah to immediately resign for administering the most fraudulent polls in the history of Malawi.
On Tuesday, the social media was awash with reports that Blantyre City Council (BCC) blocked HRDC from holding the protest in the commercial capital on grounds that all routes in City have been fully booked.
The City Council went further by instructing the police not to allow concerned Malawians from doing their constitutional rights.
But this did not please the CSOs who threatened to take an unspecified actions against Blantyre City Council Chief Executive Officer Alfred Chaza, accusing him of being partisan.
Due to pressure, Chaza rescinded his earlier stand and allowed the CSOs to peacefully protest.
And this morning, MPS through its spokesperson James Kadadzera have allowed CSOs to peacefully protest across the country.
In the statement Kadadzera says every Malawian is free to demonstrate but must do so responsibly.
