Lawmaker for Mangochi South Liliani Patel has been appointed as leader of United Democratic Front (UDF) in Parliament.
The development follows an order by Speaker of the National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara urging all political parties to submit the names of its leader in the House by end of business today.
UDF Spokesperson Ken Ndanga confirmed of Patel’s appointment in an interview with the press over the weekend.
According to Ndanga, Patel will be deputized by Roderick Khumbanhiwa an MP for Chikwawa.
Zomba Ntonya MP will be the Party’s Chief Whip in the August House.
Meanwhile the main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is yet to elect its leadership in the house.
