Chiradzulu District Commissioner, Reinghard Chavula, says all is set for the 2019 National Albinism Awareness Day event scheduled for Thursday in the district.

He says the event is very unique as comparing to other similar events the Council has been conducting in the past as it will be aimed at strengthening each other in the fight against bad practices people with albinism go through.

Secretary for Association of People with Albinism in Malawi (APAM) in the district, Horace Chibwana, says the participatory interest that various stakeholders shown on the event is a sign that people in the country have desire to end the malpractices people with albinism are facing in the country.

According to Chibwana, Chiradzulu has registered no case to do with violence against people with albinism since 2014, a development he attributed to good relationship which is there between them and other stakeholders such as traditional leaders and police.

“The function is very important to people in the district and to the whole nation because it will be spreading messages on how they can take part in protecting people with albinism,” he said.

Malawi commemorates Albinism Awareness Day on 13th June every year and this year’s event is expected to be held on Thursday 27 June at St. Michaels Primary School in Chiradzulu district under the theme: ‘Still Stand Strong’.
