The Boma Local Court in Lusaka has ordered a 20-year-old man to compensate the father of his girlfriend with K10, 000 for damaging her virginity.

This is in a case in which Shadrick Mumba dragged Richard Nkhoma, a bus conductor to court for impregnating his daughter last year.

Mumba told Senior Local Court Magistrate Juliet Mwila that he now wanted Nkhoma to compensate him.

He said on discovering that his daughter was pregnant in September, 2018, she told him that it was Mr Nkhoma who was responsible.

“We summoned Nkhoma’s family which readily accepted that their son was the one responsible. We charged them K1, 000 for accepting the responsibility which they failed to pay and said it was too much,” Mumba said.

He said they had not yet charged them for damage from the time they refused to pay admission fee of K1, 000.

“In February, my child delivered and is yet to go back to school as she was in grade 9 when she fell pregnant. What upset me is that Nkhoma followed my daughter to school to beat her up,

“My wife went to Kanyama police to get a call out for him. So I brought him here so that he can start paying me for virginity damage,” Mumba said.

“In our tradition, because things were not done in a proper manner I am asking for K40, 000 for damage,” he said.

In defence Nkhoma did not deny the allegations and said he was the one who impregnated Mumba’s daughter.

He however denied following her to school and beating her up.

The court then ordered Nkhoma to pay Mumba K10, 000 as compensation.
