The speaker of parliament Catherine Gotani Hara vows to remain impartial when executing her duties in parliament.

Hara’s remarks come amid continued tension in the national assembly.

For instance during the official opening of Parliament by President Peter Mutharika, the opposition legislators largely from the Malawi Congress Party walked out of parliament in protest of the speaker’s decision to send one of them out of the chamber.

This was after the legislators had booed Mutharika just before he presented the state of the nation address.
