The US government has banned Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President Uladi Mussa and his spouse from entering America due his alleged corrupt practices in connection to the passport saga which is in court.

Mussa is alleged to have violated his ministerial powers and the Malawi Constitution by granting Malawi citizenship to over 50 foreigners in 2013 when he was minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Mussa in 2017 together with former chief citizenship officer at the Immigration Department David Kwanjana.

According to the ACB, the two allegedly received bribes from foreigners in exchange for Malawian passports when Mussa was minister.

Mussa who is also President Peter Mutharika’s advisor on Parliamentary Affairs is answering charges of neglect of official duty contrary to Section 121 of the Penal Code and abuse of public office contrary to Section 25B(1) of the Corrupt Practices Act. Kwanjana is also answering similar charge.
