A groom-to-be of Kitwe in Zambia has been reported to police by his in-laws after he handed them K7000 fake kwacha notes in dowry payment.

According to Beats FM Radio, Lazarus Mbewe of Kitwe, Nkana East was to marry Hellen Kaira was charged K8000 as dowry.

The Radio Station reports that from the K8000, Mbewe paid K7500 to his bride’s family which later noticed that K7000 of it was fake money.

Mbewe was contacted and notified about the fake notes but he denied paying counterfeit notes and claimed he brought the original Zambian kwacha notes.

Mbewe’s in-laws reported the matter to police but since then, the groom has gone missing and it is now two weeks.

Police are still investigating and searching for Mbewe.
