A 90-year-old man has been killed on Sunday after being hit by a tyre that flew off a moving truck trailer in Kasungu at Jonasi village.
Kasungu police public relations officer Harry Namwaza has identified the deceased as Vita Phiri.
It is reported that during the time of the incident, a freightliner truck driven by Solomoni Matsekanjala was coming from Mzimba heading to Kasungu and upon arrival at Jonasi village near Nkhamenya trading centre, a tyre from the trailer got loose and flew off to hit the deceased who was walking on the side of the road.
The deceased sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.
Phiri hailed from Ofesi village in the area of sub traditional authority Kalikonkha in the same district.
