Karonga Chitipa Cultural Heritage has condemned suspected Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) cadets for describing Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Chairperson Timothy Mtambo as foreign national from Burundi.
Recently social media has been flooded with comments from DPP cadets describing Mtambo as a foreign national for being critical of the outcome of the May 21 tripartite election which saw President Peter Mutharika being declared winner.
The cadets went further by saying Mtambo is planning to escape from the country following a decision by government to punish organizers of the July 4 demonstrations which saw several properties being torched in Lilongwe and Mzuzu.
In a statement released on Thursday, Karonga Chitipa Cultural Heritage National Coordinator Alfred Mwambila said Mtambo is not a foreigner.
Mwambila said it is unfortunate for anyone to allege that Mtambo is a foreigner.
“The Heritage believes in human rights including freedom of expression, right to demonstrate peacefully and unarmed, rule of law and state accountability,” reads the statement.
Meanwhile HRDC has vowed to continue with ant-Ansah demonstrations.
