Police in Rumphi have arrested a 49-year old man for allegedly murdering his girlfriend by gun shooting on July 14th, 2019 at Kanyenjere area in the district.
The deceased, Queen Luhanga, 40 hailed from Gonthaminga village, Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe in the district.
According to the district’s police spokesperson, Inspector Henry Mnjere, the two wanted to marry each other after staying in a love relationship for a long period.
“While making arrangements for the marriage, they informed parents who realized that the two are related and declined the marriage.This development did not please the suspect and insisted to go against parents decision,”said Inspector Mnjere.
The officer continued on saying on the material date at around 09:00 PM, the suspect met the deceased at the said place when she was returning from Nthalire where she attended church service.
“Immediately the suspect shot her with a muzzle loader on her chest and she was thereafter taken to Hewe Health Center where she was pronounced dead, “Mnjere added.
A Postmoterm showed that death was due to hemorrhagic shook after a deep gun shot wound.
The matter was reported to police who visited the scene and the suspect surrendered himself to Rumphi police station.
Meanwhile the police are investigating on the matter to recover the said muzzle loader and the suspect will appear before court soon to answer a case of murder contrary to section 209 of the Penal Code.
The suspect is Sundries Zgambo Chilembo from Chisuta village, Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe in Rumphi district .
