President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has appointed three commanders for the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers, faceofmalawi can reveal.
This has been disclosed in a statement from the office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) signed by Chief Secretary to the President Lloyd Muhara.
According to the statement, Major General Alick Bentry Mhone, MSM, PSC will be Army Commander for Landed Forces and will be deputized by Brigadier General Davis Sesatino Mtachi, MSM, PSC, NDC (T).
The statement further says that, Major General Andrew Lapken Namathanga, MSM, POMS, PSC, ENST will be Army Commander for Airforce and will be Deputized by Brigadier General Ian MacLeod Chirwa, MSM, PSC, PWC.
While Maritime Force Commander is Brigadier General Francis Blessings Kakhuta Banda, MSM, PSC, NDC (K) and will be Deputized by Colonel Richard Tobias Chagonapanja, PSC.
According to the Office of the President and Cabinet, the appointments are with immediate effect.
The statement further states that the Commander of the Malawi Defence Force remains General Vincent Nundwe with Lieutenant General Clement Namangale as Deputy Commander of the Malawi Defence Force.
