Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has announced a reschedule of weekly demonstrations from Friday’s to Thursday’s as one way of accommodating Muslims in the peaceful protests.

HRDC chairperson Timothy Mtambo confirmed.

HRDC and other political parties have been organizing demonstration calling for Malawi Electoral Commission Chairperson Jane Ansah to step down.

“From next week, we will be holding the protests on Thursday’s to accommodate our Muslim friends who would want to participate in the demos,” said Mtambo.

However, Mtambo said that this week’s demonstrations will go on as planned.

“We will not give up, we wiil not relent until Ansah resigns,” said Mtambo.

Meanwhile, Ansah has said she will not resign citing that she has no warrant to issue her resignation.

Ansah has been receiving resignation calls from HRDC and other political parties for mismanaging
May 21 elections.
