Mangochi woman identified as Zeliya Kasiya ha shocked communities when she burnt hands of her five year old son Dalitso Banda for misusing K100.

On July 19, Kasiya allegedly scalded both hands of the child when he was sent to the market to purchase items with the money.

It took the communities to intervene after seeing the critical condition of the child by informing the police who rushed to the scene and issued a report for the minor to receive medical attention.

Mangochi police spokesperson Rhodrick Maida said the suspect was arrested then granted bail to take care of the child before her case is taken to court.

Minister of Gender, Children Disability and Social welfare, Mary Navicha expressed shock with the act of Kasiya on the innocent child when she paid the victim a visit at Mangochi district hospital.

“This is an innocent child who did not deserve punishment. This is violence of highest order against children,” Navicha said.

She further vowed not entertain such violence against children as her ministry will do anything possible to end violence against children.

“I will ensure that such parents face the law. such women ill be prosecuted to protect children and end such violence,” she said.

Navicha then asked the district social welfare to ensure that the woman faces trial and that other children in the family are taken care of.

A father to the victim Zenas John Banda thanked the minster for paying his son a visit.
