Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is failing to trace results and tally sheets for a case in which three Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Shadow Members of Parliament are challenging the results of May 21 elections.

The three are identified as Kafandikhale Mandevana of Nsanje Central, Enoch Chizuzu of Nsanje North and Foster Thipiwa of Chikwawa East are challenging the parliamentary elections.

According to the lawyer representing the three Wester Kossamu, the High Court in Blantyre ordered MEC that it should produce all the documents used in the elections of the three constituencies and that the case should return in court on July 29, 2019.

“Original tally sheets have not been disclosed and are not in custody of MEC,” said Kossamu.

Kossamu added that other documents are only partially disclosed.

During the inspection of documents at the commission’s warehouse which involved opening of ballot boxes, the court could not find key documents.

In the three constituencies Francis Katsaira of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Esther Mcheka-Chilenje of DPP and Sam Khumbanyiwa of United Democratic Front (UDF) were declared winner.
