A Kenyan man in Kalangala District has been handed a 30-year jail term for defiling his two biological daughters.

Abdul Nyenje, 39, is a resident of Lwabaswa Island in Kalangala District.

He was on Monday convicted and sentenced by Masaka Resident Judge, Ms Winfred Nabisinde on his own plea of guilt for defiling his nine and 14 year old daughters.

Nyenje was arraigned in court on two counts of aggravated defilement and incest.

Prosecution led by Ms Amina Nkasa told court that Nyenje was arrested by residents who caught him red-handed defiling his 14-year-old daughter.

The minor told the residents that Nyenje had on several occasions sexually assaulted them.

Court heard that Nyenje had repeatedly defiled his daughters since he separated with his wife in 2018.

According to Nkasa, Nyenje threatened the girls not to reveal their ordeal to neighbours.

However, luck ran out for the convict when one of the minors raised alarm, which attracted residents. They caught him red-handed and handed him over to police.

Nkasa asked court to hand the convict a long custodial sentence to serve as an example to other men, saying cases of men sexually assaulting young girls and women are on the rise in the greater Masaka region.

Nyende’s lawyer, Mr Alexander Lule asked court to give Nyenje a lighter sentence since he didn’t waste court’s time and was remorseful for his actions.

Justice Nabisinde agreed with prosecution that Nyenje requires a long custodial sentence for his conduct, arguing that court had the duty of protecting children and women from sexual violence.

She said people like Nyenje must be kept away from society because they are dangerous to the girl child.

She condemned Nyenje’s action, saying it’s an abomination for a father to defile his daughter.

He handed him 30 years for defilement and 19 years for incest which all terms will be served concurrently.
