Mzuzu City Mayor will on Saturday lead a ‘make Mzuzu clean’ exercise organised by Viphya Lions Club, a charitable organization, in conjunction with Mzuzu City Council.

Speaking in an interview Wednesday, Viphya Lions Club district governor for Malawi and Mozambique, Victor Gondwe said the campaign aims to rid the city of any rubbish and make it clean.

Gondwe further said the campaign would prompt communities to take up the role of cleaning their surroundings.

“We want the masses to embrace this exercise, in so doing we will be helping ourselves to live a life free from diseases that can be caused by dirt,” said Gondwe.

“This is just a launching exercise whereby we will go all round cleaning and making some sensitization,” added Gondwe.

Mzuzu city council public relations officer, Macdonald Gondwe said this exercise will take place in all central business places in the city starting from Mzuzu shopping mall.

He added that preparations for this exercise are at an advanced stage and the Mzuzu city Mayor is expected to be the one leading the exercise.

“Basically, the aim of this exercise is to rejuvenate the city to always remain clean and to instill a culture of keeping our city clean always,” said Gondwe.

He urged Mzuzu residents to emulate the culture of always taking care of their surroundings to make them condusive to living.
