Blantyre Water Board (BWB) has reduced its water connection fee to enable more households have access to piped water.
The reduction of the connection fee has come following a survey the board conducted which revealed that most of the low-income earners find it difficult to access clean water due to the cost of installation.
In a statement made available to Faceofmalawi reporter BWB has said the procedure for applying for new water connection remains the same.
“The procedure for applying for new water connection remains the same only that during the time of promotion, customers will only pay K15,000 to the Board as connection (administrative) fee,” reads the statement.
BWB has said With the introduction of this new initiative, they are looking forward to customers that they will be required to buy all pipes, fittings and pay for the labor for excavation and back filling of trenches.
